The Good: I managed to scrounge up some money this weekend to get some tea from the Feel Good Store uptown. A new box of the tea that R uses to help out with his stomach problems cost about 50% more than ordering it directly from the company, but since we can't afford to buy 6 boxes at once right now (that company's minimum order) and we were running low, paying the higher price for one box was something we couldn't afford to not do.
I also was a little bad and bought a container of gingerbread chai tea. It wasn't quite what I was expecting, since it's got a very fruity flavour and I was hoping for something that went better with milk and honey, but it's still quite tasty. And is organic, and free-trade!
And because I was one of their first customers that day, I also got an organic cotton tote bag with artwork by a local artist on it. Perfect for carrying around my books!
The Bad: Where my previous job is concerned, things are more complicated than I first thought. The previous owner of the company still hasn't paid us what we're owed, but yet is bragging about how she's looking forward to going on a cruise soon. Some employees couldn't afford to pay their bills since they lost their jobs. Most of them aren't going to be able to afford any holiday festivities this year. I've been in contact with some old coworkers who have become wonderful friends, and am more committed to fighting this injustice than ever. T wants me to write a letter to the editor of the local paper in order to bring public shame to the people causing the problem. Her husband, V, is probably a better choice for it since he's a better and more mature writer than I am, but alas, he doesn't have the health to carry on the fight right now. (Guess whose fault that is.) So I'm spearheading that, as well as looking more seriously into filing a lawsuit against the company's owners.
And because T and V probably won't be able to have much of a Christmas this year, I'm going to make something for them. Probably a knitted blanket. Just because they may not be able to afford much this year, and just because R and I probably can't afford much this year either, doesn't mean we can't give handmade items to good friends.
The Ugly: Just to round this out, I had to include some ugly thing, but I think I summed that up quite nicely in the previous section regarding my ex-boss. My feelings towards her are pretty ugly right now.
