I'm currently in the process of making some bookmarks for a craft trade. They're done in a Celtic knotwork pattern, in a simple outline stitch. The original ones that I made a few years ago were done on 14-count Aida cloth, but the cloth that I have this time is 24-count evenweave, so it's finer than the Aida. This means that unless I want the pattern coming out very tiny, I have to make adjustments. Not so hard when doing straight stitches, but when you bring diagonals into the picture, it can get a little fiddly.
Thus, I made three false starts on these bookmarks, wasting embroidery floss and cloth in the process. But I finally figured everything out, and I should have them all finished in a day or so. Then I can get back to the knitting for T and V's blanket.
I finished reading Fire Rose the other night. It was just as enjoyable as the last time I read it, too, only now I had the added amusement of knowing more about the time period the story takes place in. So now when the main character makes a comment about, say, McGuffy's Readers, I fully understand the joke being made, and it makes the story that much more enjoyable to read.
Gates of Sleep is the next in the series, and I'll probably end up saving that one for the new year. While I can read and knit at the same time, it does make my knitting a little slower. And I certainly can't read and sew at the same time. Looks like it's back to watching documentaries for me!
Of course, with any luck I should have more of my time taken up soon. I have an interview on Wednesday. It's not the kind of job I'd like to have, but it's with a good company nonetheless, and right now I'll take what I'm offered. R and I need the money, and if I can get this job and the pay is good, that will be a big step to fixing our financial problems. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one, I really am. It'll leave me with less time to read and craft, but it'll make sure I have the money to pay the bills. Right now, that's more important than my hobbies, much as I love them.
My third cup of tea today is probably cool enough to drink now, so I'll sign off and go get some more embroidery done while sipping a delicious mug of PG Tips. Nothing better than this on a cold evening when the snow's lying thick on the ground.
