It was such a treat to sleep in today. For the past two and a half weeks, I've been getting up at 7:30 to make it to work on time, but today my schedule has changed to something later. For the remaining two and a half weeks, I work from 1:00 until 9:00, and so sleeping in until 9 in the morning felt so good to do!
Funny, the difference only an hour and a half can make.
The schedules have changed around so often since I started this temporary job. First we were contracted for 4 weeks. Then it was extended to 5 weeks,, making it 3 weeks of training and 2 weeks of taking calls. Only a few days ago we found out that we'd be starting to take calls 2 days early, so the last third of the training had to be condensed a bit in order to get us ready. Honestly, an extra two ays of calls doesn't make much difference to me. Our trainers have predicted that it probably won't be very busy for us, since we're only taking the overflow calls that the other two call centres can't handle. If that means there are no overflow calls, then we get to spend the next couple of weeks being paid to sit around near the phones, talking and doing whatever else we can to keep ourselves amused for 8 hours.
I expect I'll be doing a lot of knitting and reading.
My reading time has been somewhat lessened lately. I'd managed to do a lot of reading on the bus to and from work, and during my breaks and lunch period. Now I've made friends, which means I'm rarely left alone to just sit quietly and read. Not that I mind this, of course. It's nice to have the company. But it means I haven't been tearing through books as quickly as I had been in the first week of this job, for example.
And since there are a few of my friends who are also looking into getting hired on permanently at this company, it may stay that way. If we all start a new training class for a new campaign at the same time, we'll have the same breaks and lunches, which means my reading time will be confined to bus rides.
It's kind of a shame. I was really enjoying being on such a reading kick. But there's nothing that says I can't put away some of my other tasks at home for an hour a day and just settle down with a novel or two, after all.
