tea_and_tomes: (knitting)

Brrr! The windchill has brought the temperature outside down to -27 Celcius, which to me indicates a day when I should stay indoors, wrapped up in comfy blankets and sipping at mugs of hot sweet tea.

Alas, I have to go out and get my banking information for yet another staffing agency. Hopefully they'll be able to find a job for me. At this point I'd even be willing to take a few weeks of work, just to get a little bit of income so I don't keep sinking deeper and deeper into debt.

Shame I can't get paid for reading books and drinking tea. I'd be millionaire!

It could be worse, though, and I'm well aware of that. I could be so broke that I don't have anything to wear on my feet but an old pair of $10 sandals, no coat but a light spring jacket, and no food in the apartment at all. Instead I have comfy sneakers, a nice thick winter coat, and the cupboards are as stocked as they can get right now. Which isn't to say they're full, but there is enough food in this place to last R and I a few weeks, possibly almost a month if we're very frugal.

Poor R, though. Things got so bad for him, health-wise, that we took a trip to the hospital the other night. Turns out the reason he's been so dizzy and weak lately is that he's been fighting a bladder infection, a viral infection likely to be a cold or some strain of the flu, and the usual stomach pain he's in because of IBS and the fact that his job won't give him the regular schedule he needs. Poor guy's missed a few days work in favour of resting on the couch and in bed, and even though we're short of money, I'd rather he be here where I can take care of him and where he can rest and recover and gain some of his strength back.

Nothing new in the book world, really. I gave R his Yule present a little early, which was a copy of The Infernal City by Greg Keyes, which is a novel set in the world of one of R's favourite video games. But other than that there's been precious little reading going on in this place of late. Too busy getting other things done, I suppose. Right now I should be knitting another few rows on that blanket that won't get done on time anyway.

Maybe that's why I did take a few minutes from knitting to type up this entry. It won't be finished on time, the recipients know that and are okay with it, and what's a few minutes in the grand scheme of things?

Though I should stop blathering and get myself ready to face the bitter cold. Brrr, but I just want to stay inside today!
