I haven't been doing quite as much reading lately as I had been earlier in the month. This is because I've been very distracted by television. I know, I know, I'm terrible! But it isn't that I'm against TV. Far from it. I admit I don't like the amount that most people watch TV, and obsess over TV shows like they're the most important things in the world. It's not a life-or-death situation, debating what happened on Lost last night or who's going to win American Idol.
The shows I tend to love are the documentaries. Lately I've rewatched Victorian Farm, which is always fascinating to watch, since the Victorian period is a particular interest of mine. Then I moved on to The Worst Jobs in History, which aside from occasionally being gross, teaches some really interesting things about how day-to-day life was lived in various periods of British history. Living history is another fascination of mine, so this appeals to me in so many ways. I expect I'll finish off that series today, since I think there are only two episodes to go.
After that, I can watch What The Victorians Did For Us (sensing a theme at all?) and then possibly move on to the Walking With series, which I've seen most of before but is always fun to rewatch.
I do watch "story" shows sometimes, too. I can't count how many times I've watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the first three seasons of House. But I don't go as crazy over these shows as a lot of people tend to. I'll watch them, I'll enjoy them, I'll discuss them, but I won't watch every new series that comes out, and I won't pitch a fit if a series I like gets cancelled. (Though I may still be upset.) Shows of certain genres don't appeal to me at all, like sitcoms or reality shows. I have to like the premise of a show before I'll watch it. I won't just watch something new because it's new and therefore unknown, and I won't watch it obsessively.
Honestly, if I'm going to spend a day doing nothing but watching TV (rarely happens, but let's assume for the sake of this scenario), then I'd rather it be something at least a little educational. Like my beloved documentaries. Story shows are interesting, but with few exceptions, I'd rather get my stories in the form of a book rather than moving pictures. I'm sure that makes me weird, by the standards of today's society, but there you have it.
So it's now time to make myself a delicious mug of tea and finish up watching The Worst Jobs in History. Hopefully i'll manage to finish knitting the shawl for G today, too. I'm nearing the end of the yarn, so if I don't finish it today it'll probably be done tomorrow instead. Then I can start on the blanket for T and V, which I've been looking forward to starting ever since I made the decision to knit it!
