I met my mother for lunch today, and while walking to meet her I passed through the Market, and it was with a gleefully light heart that I saw the wonderful sight of all the English chocolates and biscuits all ready for the holiday season. There are precious few places here where I can get things that remind me of home like that, and one of the reasons I look forward to the holidays is that I know the Market will have a few stalls with delicious treats from home.

My mother was happy to see they were there too, and she bought a few treats for me before we parted ways. I came home with a large packet of Revels, and a box of PG Tips tea.

Tea in Canada is different than tea in England. I mean regular tea, of course, the stuff that people think of when they think of "tea". Not some herbal mixture, not some flavoured thing, not green tea. Just plain old generic tea. I'm not sure why there's such a difference, but there is. It may simply be a difference in brands and how they prefer their teas prepared, since a lot of the tea brands here are different than the ones from England. I really can't say.

But either way, I now have a nice box of British tea, and I'm looking forward to having a cup tonight. Possibly with some of the rice pudding that I could in a can in the cupboard a day or so ago. (I must have bought it last time I got groceries but forgot all about it.)

We've had a mild few days of weather here lately, so R and I have been taking advantage of it by going for walks quite often, even just short walks to the corner store and back. We've gotten ourselves hooked on cans of apple green tea, and since the cans are larger than a personal-sized bottle of soda and are about half the price, it's worth the trip each night just for another can. But mostly, I do it for the fresh air. There's still fresh air in the winter, of course, but it's not so fun to breathe in when my weak lungs object to the temperature and dryness of the air.

Of course, not to be outdone by my lungs, my weak leg has been playing up more and more lately, sometimes to the point where I can't put weight on it or else I'll have shooting pains going all up that side. I don't know how that muscles managed to get so messed up, but there's not much to do now but treat it well and do gentle exercises until it's stronger again.

I'd love to keep writing here, but I've got dishes to wash and books to read. I've started the first book of the second Warriors series, but Erin Hunter. It's good, but not as enjoyable as the first series. It feels now like the author (or authors, since Erin Hunter is a pseudonym for multiple writers) is trying too hard and falling just short of the mark.

For example, antagonism between characters is a good thing, and can drive both characters onward. I'm talking here of Brambleclaw and Squirrelpaw. But Squirrelpaw's just an obnoxious little twit who needs to be knocked down a few pegs, and every time she opens her mouth to speak I wonder why Brambleclaw doesn't just lay the smack down, so to speak. I wouldn't put up with half of her sass.

And I suspect that things are going to lead to a romantic involvement between the two, and that bothers me. I don't mind usually when two people (or cats, in this case) get together when they spent a while arguing. Firestar and Sandstorm are a perfect example. But once Sandstorm got over her resentment of Firestar's heritage, the chemistry between them was easy to see. I can't see Squirrelpaw settling down any time soon, and her attitude about everything is so bothersome that the parts of the book that have her in them are difficult to read.

Hopefully the library will get more of the series in, though. I so far have borrown books 1 through 3 of that series, and there are, I believe, 3 more after that. Even if some of the characters do annoy me, I want to know what happens, and don't want to be left hanging.
