Know the saying, "It never rains but pours." It's inaccurate, of course. It often rains without pouring. But lately, it seems, there's been enough rain to constitute a period of pouring, and it's been a mix of literal and figurative rain, too.
The pipes in the bathroom burst yesterday. We had to call the landlord, who came over and shut off the water and declared that he didn't have the part he needed to fix things, but he'd get them the next day, which was today. He should be over tomorrow to fix the pipes, and then we'll be able to have water back if all goes well. Which will be nice, because I need to take a shower, and it would be nice to be able to wash some dishes. (I never thought I'd say that, but there you have it.)
R's been sick again for the past week, which has set off his stomach troubles. I too have been sick, the cold ranging from mildly annoying to hacking-up-a-lung.
My first day of work was today. It was strange to go back to Company S. I worked for them years ago, and my temp job is there again, and as much as some little things have changed, the whole place still felt so familiar. It's a shame this job is only a temporary one; I think it would be nice to work there on a more permanent basis again. But it seems that the company's slowly losing contracts, and there isn't as much work there as there has been in the past, so maybe it's a good thing my job there is only a temporary one. I wouldn't want to get hired on there permanently only to find myself in the same predicament a few months down the road.
There are a few nice people in my training class, too. G seems nicest of all, and I think we'll get along well. He's much like me, interested in fantasy and science fiction and role-playing and the like, so I expect we'll end up in a few good discussions about various books and movies. M, who sits next to me, is nice enough, but I have to remember to be patient with him because he's an older man who admits that he has almost no experience using a computer. L seems very much like a leader, and I think she'll do well in the training classes. Our trainer, J, is very energetic and fun to listen to.
I spent today feeling very tired, though, since I didn't sleep much nor did I really eat anything. Hopefully tomorrow I'll feel more awake and ready to face the day. If I bring a few things to snack on, and most importantly a drink, I ought to make it just fine even if I don't have enough food to constitute a meal. And that will really only last until I get paid anyway, and R and I can get some groceries back in the apartment.
